K-8 Tutoring: Evidence-Based Support

Is your child spending hours on homework that should take 30 minutes? Are they reading below grade level despite trying hard? Do organizational challenges make every school day a battle? When students struggle academically, it's not because they're not smart enough or not trying hard enough. It's because they haven't found the right key to unlock their learning.

With 25 years of teaching and curriculum development experience, I provide targeted, evidence-based tutoring that identifies exactly where students are stuck and builds the skills they need to succeed.

Serving NYC, Hudson Valley, and families nationwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does tutoring typically last?

Most students work with me for 3-6 months to close skill gaps and build confidence. Some students continue for ongoing support throughout the school year. It depends on your child's needs and goals.

Do you assign homework?

Yes, but it's brief and targeted—typically 10-15 minutes between sessions. Practice is important, but I'm mindful of not overwhelming students who are already struggling with school homework.

Can you help with specific school assignments?

While I can support homework completion occasionally, tutoring is most effective when we focus on building underlying skills rather than just getting assignments done. Once we strengthen foundation skills, homework becomes much easier.

What if my child has already worked with a tutor and it didn't help?

Many tutors provide homework help without addressing root skill gaps. My approach is diagnostic—I identify exactly what's missing and teach those specific skills systematically. This is more effective than general homework support.

Do you work with students with IEPs or 504 plans?

Absolutely. I have extensive experience supporting students with learning differences, ADHD, dyslexia, and other challenges. I'm happy to collaborate with your child's school team.

How do I know if my child needs tutoring vs. just more time?

If your child has been struggling for more than 2-3 months despite school interventions, they likely need targeted support. The gap won't close on its own—it will widen. Early intervention prevents this.
